Supporting Practice without Borders

An Aspen Bad Oldesloe initiative

In November 2017, we embarked on a fundraising initiative with a difference. As part of our 5S-Actions, unused, obsolete office supplies and promotional gifts were collected from various departments and employees were encouraged to make personal contributions of any items that were appropriate in order to further support the campaign. The CI team used a simple practice of collecting returnable bottles and other items and these were also added to the stock of supplies.

All these donations were photographed and then displayed at the canteen from where they were auctioned to benefit a charitable institution that looks after people in need. The funds raised, together with personal donations equated to €242 which was doubled by Aspen to €500.

Sarah-Sophie Isaakson proposed that the funds be donated to “Practice without Borders”. Located in Bad Segeberg and under the direction of Dr Uwe Denker, this initiative assists destitute patients who do not have adequate health insurance or access to appropriate treatment.

The handover was made to Dr Denker at a town hall meeting. He addressed employees on the work that was being done in Bad Segeberg and shared that the need in that area had recently increased to include middle class patients.

Dr Denker also said that he has authored a book titled “Practice without Borders – Medicine in a Rich Country” that addresses the effect of an idea, charitable support, politics and social justice, and he expressed sincere appreciation to the Aspen Bad Oldesloe team for their efforts and contributions which would make a significant difference to those in need in Bad Segeberg.
