Fun Day for disadvantaged learners

An Aspen Ireland initiative

The Scoil Cnoc Mhuire (Knockmore School) in Killinarden in Tallaght is a DEIS Band 1 designated disadvantaged Senior Primary School that participates in the Giving Children an Even Break initiative.

The principles of integration and inclusion are central to the life of the school and all pupils are treated equally regardless of ethnic background, need or ability. A love of reading is fostered through the school and the quality of learning and teaching in science is excellent.

The students had been tasked to establish a “Sponsor a Laptop” project to raise funds to buy new equipment for their classroom, which led to them approaching Aspen Ireland for assistance.

Class representative GoodHope and his teacher were invited to Aspen’s offices to discuss his handwritten request. In return, representatives from the IT & HR departments visited the school to gain a better understanding of their needs.

In order to support them and to help raise funds for new laptops, the IT Department held a raffle and Fun Day. The Fun day was a great success, particularly the computer games station and the brainteasers. The chance to win raffle prizes was attractive particularly with items such as an iPad, Ireland rugby jersey, free yoga session, a gift basket, cinema tickets and 5 runner-up prizes on offer. Through these efforts Aspen’s employees raised €335 for the school, further demonstrating our commitment to make a difference in local communities.
